The eight teams — and how they got here

Season 18 continues the partnership era: the eight organisations were selected by Moonton and announced on 24 February 2026. There is no promotion, no relegation and no open buy-in — slots are partnership-based.

Team Note
Selangor Red Giants (SRG) Five-time defending champions, chasing a sixth straight title
Team Vamos Season 17 runners-up
Team Rey Partnership-era entrant
RRQ Regional powerhouse brand's MY division
Bigetron MY by VIT Indonesian brand's Malaysian operation
All Combo Partnership-era entrant
Invictus Gaming International brand's MY division
Team Flash Established SEA esports organisation

Roster caution: official team pages are live, but player-level availability can still change. Matchday line-ups are treated as confirmed only when the league or teams publish them.

The storyline: SRG's sixth-title chase

The reason neutral fans will watch Season 18 is arithmetic: Selangor Red Giants have won five consecutive MPL MY titles, and no Malaysian organisation has ever taken six in a row. The most recent chapter was emphatic — a 4–0 Grand Final sweep of Team Vamos on 7 June 2026 at Stadium Juara Bukit Kiara, with roamer "Yums" named Finals MVP and SRG banking US$31,900 (about RM128,541) to Vamos' US$18,700. SRG also carry Malaysia's flag credentials from recent MSC appearances at the Esports World Cup and the IESF world championship. Every other partnership team enters Season 18 with the same first objective: end the streak.

Format: what's confirmed and what's disputed

The regular season is a double round robin — all eight teams meet twice. The working confirmed match format is best-of-3, per the league's official season communications; we flag openly that a widely used community database lists the regular season as best-of-5, and we will reconcile this against the Week 1 broadcast itself. Playoffs use a hybrid bracket: seeds 3–6 enter a single-elimination first round, seeds 1–2 receive byes into a double-elimination stage; playoff series are mostly Bo5, with the lower-bracket final and Grand Final at Bo7. The playoffs venue had not been announced as of 29 July.

Week 1 schedule (all times MYT)

Fri 14 Aug 8:15 PM Team Vamos vs Team Flash

Sat 15 Aug 8:15 PM Selangor Red Giants vs Invictus Gaming
Sun 16 Aug 2:30 PM Invictus Gaming vs RRQ

The champions' opener — SRG vs Invictus Gaming in Saturday's prime slot — is the week's marquee booking, with the SRG–Team Rey rematch closing the weekend.

Why the partnership model matters

Season 18 is the continuation of a structural bet. Under the partnership model, Moonton selects the league's member organisations rather than running open qualification: the current eight were announced together on 24 February 2026, hold multi-season slots, and face no relegation. The trade-off is deliberate — stability for organisations to invest in facilities, content and academies, at the cost of the open-circuit drama of promotion battles. For viewers, the practical effect is continuity: the same eight brands, season after season, which turns every rivalry into a running serial rather than a one-off. It also raises the competitive question that defines this season: in a closed league where nobody can be relegated for failing, the only meaningful table position is the one that ends SRG's streak.

The challengers, ranked by storyline

Until rosters are published, form guides are guesswork — but narratives are already set. Team Vamos carry the most direct claim, as the side that reached June's Grand Final and absorbed a 4–0 sweep they will have spent the off-season metabolising. RRQ and Invictus Gaming bring international-brand resources and the institutional impatience that comes with them; neither operates a Malaysian division to finish mid-table. Bigetron MY by VIT sits in the same category with an Indonesian pedigree to defend. Team Flash, Team Rey and All Combo round out the eight as the field's variance: partnership-era sides for whom a playoff run would constitute a breakthrough season. The honest summary: one dynasty, one wounded finalist, three ambitious brands, three wildcards — and every one of those descriptions gets rewritten the day official rosters drop.

Tickets and getting in

Tickets are sold through t2u.asia, the league's ticketing platform for arena match days. Gate times follow the session schedule: doors at 4:15 PM for 5:00 PM matches and 7:30 PM for 8:15 PM sessions. The venue sits inside Quill City Mall on Jalan Sultan Ismail — Medan Tuanku Monorail station is the most direct public-transport approach.

A practical note for first-time arena visitors: MPL MY match days are session-based, so a Saturday like 15 August actually contains three separate viewing windows (2:30 PM, 5:00 PM and 8:15 PM starts), and the evening session — SRG vs Invictus Gaming in Week 1 — is historically the one that fills first. Weekend sessions around SRG fixtures are the safest to book early; weekday Friday openers typically have more availability. The mall location also means food, parking and rail access are solved problems compared with standalone venues — arrive one gate-cycle early and the logistics take care of themselves.

Where to watch

Official live coverage runs on the league's channels: Facebook (mplmy.official), YouTube (MPL Malaysia), Instagram (@mplmy.official) and TikTok (@mplmy). Season 18 is presented by CelcomDigi with Infinix as device partner.

What still requires official confirmation

In line with this site's accuracy rules, The game patch/version, playoff venue and matchday player availability remain subject to official league or team publication. This page does not infer international qualification destinations from community databases.

Standings and results on this page

The season has not started, so no table exists yet — and none is mocked up. From 14 August, this URL adds a live standings table after each match day, per-week results with game scores, and a "next match day" card. Between 21 September and 4 October the hub switches to break mode with the resumption date pinned.
